Acoustic Breakdown Gone Country

by Hannah Dudley

Country Music: A way of life to many but completely underrated in the UK. I'm going to help change that here as I review and introduce country classics old and new, filtering the trite from the truly brilliant and dispelling your notions that country is corny. A lot of it is, but even then it can be great.

More Jewel, The Wreckers news...

It looks like the time is finally coming...Jewel is officially releasing her long-awaited fifth studio album on 1st May 2006!!!!! Two posts ago I linked a rare live-acoustic version of what's now become the title track from her new album, Goodbye Alice in Wonderland. The video for this is now online, available to watch at: http://music.yahoo.com/ar-252708-videos--Jewel
(If that link doesn't work, just go to http://launch.yahoo.com and search for Jewel videos.)

This is an incredible song and despite Jewel's fears that it will never be a successful single, given it's six minutes long, I'm hoping to help get enough people falling in love with this track that the label will HAVE to release it! The video's very simple (it was filmed impromptu whilst on a photo shoot) and perfectly exhibits the simple craftsmanship of what is a truly amazing song.

I'd also like to add that The Wreckers' debut album, Stand Still, Look Pretty, is set to be released also in May 2006. Now, Wreckers/Harp/Branch fans will no doubt know that this album was ready last summer and its release was pushed right back to 2006, so we're all probably DESPERATELY hoping that this release goes ahead. Well, it's now on the official site, so lets just keep hoping!!!

Finally, I'd just like to leave you with a couple of songs by Bethany Joy Lenz/Galeotti, who plays Hayley James Scott on the WB's One Tree Hill. If you watch the show, you'll know she's a real life singer/songwriter too with an amazing voice. Her debut album is set to be released soon on Epic. If you like Jewel, Michelle Branch, Alison Moorer, or any of the other amazing female country-rock-pop artists out there, you'll probably love Bethany.

Her official site is: http://www.bethanyjoylenz.com/ and here are a couple of great tracks.

The first is 'Halo', the song recorded and heard on a number of season 3 One Tree Hill episodes and now available on the Breast Cancer Awareness CD 'Friends With Benefit', the One Tree Hill Soundtrack Volume 2.

Halo

The second track is another beautiful track from the show, recorded by Bethany with Tyler Hilton (another incredible young country-rock singer/songwriter to check out). A cover of the Ryan Adams classic, 'When The Stars Go Blue' (original available on Ryan Adams' Gold).
