Acoustic Breakdown Gone Country

by Hannah Dudley

Country Music: A way of life to many but completely underrated in the UK. I'm going to help change that here as I review and introduce country classics old and new, filtering the trite from the truly brilliant and dispelling your notions that country is corny. A lot of it is, but even then it can be great.

'Going To A Town' by Rufus Wainwright

Powerful, passionate and political. The lead single from Rufus Wainwright's new album, Release The Stars, is a resounding success. Vocalizing his resentment for contemporary American politics and social prejudice, Wainwright questions his desire to ever return to his homeland. "I'm so tired of you America". His anger and despair are best presented in his incredulous wondering how anyone can think that love will send people into eternal damnation whilst those that choose to condemn them for their lifestyles in the name of religion are hardly free from sin.

Undoubtedly the standout track of the album with a brilliant video to support it.

"Tell me do you really think you go to hell for having loved?"
