Acoustic Breakdown Gone Country

by Hannah Dudley

Country Music: A way of life to many but completely underrated in the UK. I'm going to help change that here as I review and introduce country classics old and new, filtering the trite from the truly brilliant and dispelling your notions that country is corny. A lot of it is, but even then it can be great.

Loni Rose is officially BACK!

The new Loni Rose site I was promising you a few months ago has finally arrived, complete with full bio, gallery and most importantly, STREAMING OF ALL TRACKS ON HER UPCOMING ALBUM, SHINE!!!

The album sounds great, full of tantalising hooks, personal lyrics coupled by Loni's distinctively breathless yet powerful vocals. Jericho is already a personal favourite, really showcasing her songwriting and reminiscent of the style debued on Starlight. The Way You Move is another Loni classic. Love the production on the verses, which are really strong lyrically - although it would undoubtedly be more compelling sung live and acoustic. The chorus lacks a real hook but it's still a really beautiful song.

Nobody's Daughter has some really strong lyrics and a particularly powerful chorus - it'd make a great single. Trying Hard has a Dixie Chicks-style country vibe not really heard from Loni before - whilst it lacks the vocal power of the Chicks, it shows great promise and real flexibility.

I Want To Be With You is another beauty with melancholy country hooks and emotional lyrics. However, Until, with its exuberant gospel/folk sound makes it the album's real standout track, whilst Shine, with its acoustic production, is passionately performed and I just can't get enough of it - definitely comparable to her gut-wrenching rendition of Raining In Baltimore on Starlight.

So head on over to Lonirose.com and give it all a good listen!

P.S. Kudos to Loni's management team who were willing to put the whole album up rather than just annoying snippets. Trust me, we're heading out to buy it as soon as we can ;o)
