Acoustic Breakdown Gone Country

by Hannah Dudley

Country Music: A way of life to many but completely underrated in the UK. I'm going to help change that here as I review and introduce country classics old and new, filtering the trite from the truly brilliant and dispelling your notions that country is corny. A lot of it is, but even then it can be great.

Tegan Quin: New Song 'His Love'

Great new track from Tegan, sans Sara (they rock on their own too) written specially for the forthcoming audiobook of Augusten Burroughs' memoir, A Wolf At The Table.

Listen to it here at Stereogum.

*Sigh* A lovely start the weekend...

Phantom Planet - New Record Out! But where is it...?

Without meaning to sound like a total obsessive...Phantom Planet are one of my favourite bands, I've bought all of their albums as soon as they came out, I'm really excited to hear their new release, 'Raise The Dead' as all the tracks I've heard so far are friggin awesome..especially the title track...but...breathe...I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE (outside of the US)!

The boys are no longer on a major label and it seems their new home has forgotten to organize the supply chain (*cough* Fueled By Ramen). Some of us still believe in CDs! Anyone would think you wanted me to get it illegally or second hand. WAKE UP!

Okay, rant over, but seriously, in a climate where the music industry is slowly imploding, I expect better for these guys. They deserve it. Once I manage to locate a copy, I shall return with a proper review...

In the meantime, check out their myspace for some sneak peaks.

4 Minutes of Lonely Perfection... Rooney

Most days I wake up and within minutes find myself wondering what on earth I'm doing. I'm afraid I'm not one of those people that can put their head down, shield themselves from the wind and reality of life and the daily trawl. But I try to tell myself that's a good thing. The irony is that music is the cause of this pain but it can also be the momentary remedy. When you stumble across that 4 minutes of melodic perfection that transports you somewhere else and let's you absorb yourself into something meaningful about your life, without having to actually live it. This is today's 4 minute perfection - Rooney's 'Tell Me Soon' video. It's an anthemic rock ballad and the video features a little girl dreaming of rock stars in her bedroom when her parents think she's gone to sleep. Sounds familiar...

Ryan Adams Demo Extraordinaire: 'Crossed-Out Name'

I would like to hand today's post over to the wonderful Ryan Adams. There is a reason that I see him as the most amazing songwriter that ever lived...

I have a feeling this video might not be around for long due to copyright etc, so watch it now while you have the chance:
